The Act allows employers to forgo paying the employer portion of social security taxes on wages paid in 2010 for qualified employees. This benefit amounts to 6.2% of the wages subject to social security taxes and does not reduce social security benefits for the employee. The Act also allows employers who retain qualified hires for at least a year to claim a $1,000.00 credit on their business tax return for each qualified employee.
